My Favorite Necklace!

My favorite necklace is my rutilated quartz. The natural golden rutile is unreal! Rutilated quartz brings forth each person's strengths, originality, aids sleep, relate to others. Rutile is said to intensify the metaphysical properties of its host crystal and to enhance one's understanding of difficult situations. It is also said to enhance creativity and to relieve depression and loneliness. Rutilated quartz is said to slow down the aging process and is said to be a strong healer. But I just like it!

Moonstone

Moonstone is one of my favorite stones for its iridescent color. Come in and see for yourself. You can't help but fall in love with this stone.

"The ancient Romans theorized that moonstone, with its unearthly shimmer, was formed from frozen moonlight. This appealing gem variety does shine with a cool lunar light but it is the mineral feldspar, quite terrestrial in origin." AGTA

Topaz

Topaz is the gemstone most often associated with the month of November. It is also the talisman of Sagittarius and the suggested gift for the 23rd anniversary. This gemstone is often confused with citrine and smoky quartz. Topaz can be found in blue, green, orange, red pink purple and colorless. Blue was once very rare but, with the advent of heat treatment it is now very common and the color treatment is stable. In the 18th and 19th century’s the czarinas of Russia wore a lot of the medium reddish orange to orangey red variety of topaz. This is how that variety has become known as “Imperial Topaz”. Another variety that is described as Sherry topaz is the yellowish brown to brownish yellow in color. Topaz measures 8 on the Mohs scale. It is found in Australia, Mexico, Africa, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and the United States.

October

There are two gemstones that represent the month of October, opal and
tourmaline.

Opal was called the “Queen of Gems” by the ancient Romans. It is the symbol of hope, fidelity and purity. Opal is known for its beautiful play of color. This gemstone has the ability to bend light into a rainbow of color. Opal’s play of color has been described as pinpoints, flame and harlequin. The most common opal is white opal and the most valued is black opal from Australia. Opal is a very soft gemstone and should be treated carefully. It is easily chipped and chemicals and heat can damage this gem.

Tourmaline is the other beautiful gemstone representing October. It comes in an array of vibrant colors that range from vivid reds and hot pinks to gorgeous earth tones. It also comes in greens sometimes called chrome tourmaline or blues with names like paraiba. There are so many varieties, bi-colored, parti-colored and even watermelon. Watermelon tourmaline has a pink center and is green on the outside. Tourmaline is more durable than opal but still should be treated with care by avoiding chemicals and abrasives.

Sapphire

Sapphire is the gemstone for those born in September. When someone says sapphire we most often think of a blue gemstone. But, did you know that sapphire, a form of the mineral corundum, comes in every color but red? Red corundum is called ruby. Sapphire is the most prized blue gemstone. Its color has been described as velvety blue, cornflower blue, sometime deep liquid blue. People of ancient Persia believed that the earth sat on a giant blue sapphire causing the sky to be blue. Sapphire measures 9 on the mohs scale, making it one of the most durable gemstones. Besides its beauty its hardness makes it an excellent gemstone for all jewelry.
